Serengeti: Home to the great migration.
Serengeti National Park: Famous for the big five and the wildebeest migration
Serengeti National Park, located in Tanzania, is renowned for its rich wildlife and the spectacular wildebeest migration.
The Serengeti spans 14,763 square kilometers (5,700 square miles), extending north into Kenya and bordering Lake Victoria to the west.
The park is home to the highest concentration of large mammals on Earth, including approximately 2,500 lions, which represents the largest population of its kind found anywhere. Additionally, there are over 518 bird species recorded in the area, including some Eurasian migrants that are present from October to April during the European winter months.
Distance: The Serengeti is about 335 km (208 miles) from Arusha, and although it is not too far, the journey can be long due to road conditions. If you plan to drive to Serengeti National Park, we recommend making a stop along the way. It is advisable to reach the Ngorongoro Crater rim the evening before your visit and spend the entire next day exploring the Crater.
Best time to visit: The ideal period to witness the wildebeest migration from Serengeti National Park to Maasai Mara National Reserve is between December and July, while the best months for spotting predators are from June to October.
Recommended number of days: Given the vast array of sights within the reserve, a safari of three to four days is advisable. If photography is your focus, extending your stay will enhance your opportunities for capturing the perfect shots.
